David Bradbury Takes Office as 37th ASA President
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Construction industry veteran and subcontractor advocate David H. Bradbury, Precision Concrete Construction Inc., Alpharetta, Ga., took office as 2007-08 president of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA) on July 1, 2007.
Bradbury succeeds Stephen Rohrbach, CPC, president of F.A. Rohrbach Inc., Allentown, Pa., as the chief elected national officer of ASA and as chair of both ASA's board of directors and ASA's Executive Committee.
"Subcontractors, by definition, are hired to perform a specific task as part of an overall project," said Bradbury. "As the association of professional subcontractors, ASA has a responsibility ― both to our members and the rest of the construction industry ― to perform a specific role and that is to promote an ethical and professional business environment in which specialty trade contractors thrive. Thus, ASA must always aim to serve as a resource for information and knowledge, while simultaneously advocating for subcontractors' rights on all levels of government and within the construction industry. ASA continues to be on the leading edge on all these fronts."
Eight other leaders elected by ASA members last winter also took office on July 1, including three other ASA officers: William J. Olmo III, Fedco Construction, Santa Rosa, Calif., who serves as 2007-08 ASA vice president; Darlene Aitken, president of Holes Incorporated, Houston, Texas, as 2007-08 treasurer; and Timmy McLaughlin, Austin Construction Company Inc., Summerville, S.C., as 2007-08 secretary.
Five national directors began terms on July 1: Jack Austhof, Sobie Company Inc., Dutton, Mich.; Michael Kennedy, Simpson Contracting Inc., Birmingham, Ala.; John Lloyd, Lloyd's Construction Services Inc., Savage, Minn.; Michael W. Smith, Schaeffer Electric Company, St. Louis, Mo.; and Robert Wilson, Zimkor LLC, Littleton, Colo. ASA officers serve one-year terms, while directors serve three-year terms.
The 37th president in the association's 41-year history, Bradbury brings nearly 40 years of estimating, project management and executive experience in commercial and industrial construction, specifically in the concrete construction sector, to his new role. As ASA president, he acts as the principal spokesperson of the association, and connects with other construction industry leaders to identify and pursue common goals and to promote the interests of subcontractors and the construction industry. He also presides at meetings of ASA's board of directors, Executive Committee and the membership of the association.
Bradbury is no stranger to ASA at the national level, having served on the ASA board of directors. His volunteer service includes serving as chair of the Task Force on Governance, the Task Force on Legacy, the Bylaws Committee, and the Rap Council, and as a member of the Finance Committee. He was elected as chair of the Rap Council in 2001-02.
Bradbury also represents ASA on the American Arbitration Association's National Construction Dispute Resolution Committee. He is a past president of the ASA-Georgia Chapter.
